Kid Friendly Recipes That You'll Want To Eat Too!

Last week, I received a comment (Hi Lysa!) asking for recipe ideas that 2 year olds will actually eat. All children are different so what one likes another may not, so you might need to do some tweaking. These fast and easy breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert recipes can be customized to fit your family's needs so easily and your whole family will enjoy them!

*I made "spaghetti" last night with the ingredients we had in the fridge and freezer. As I make the items on this list this weekend, I'll make a new post with details and pics! Comment your favorite things to make so I can try them!*


2 Tbs olive oil

1/2 white onion

1Tbs garlic

1 1/2 cups frozen chicken breast strips

28oz can of spaghetti sauce (I wouldn't recommend this sauce if you're not adding to it, it's not great on its own)

1/3 cup heavy cream

3.5oz smoked gouda

6oz No Yolks

Step 1: Sauté onions and garlic in olive oil and Italian seasoning on medium until golden brown

Step 2: Entertain toddler with the camera while you stir onions

Step 3: Add frozen chicken strips to onions and garlic

Step 4: Sir in spaghetti sauce and heavy cream

Step 5: Grate in cheese and let it simmer on low for 10-15 minutes

Step 6: Boil and drain your pasta while your sauce simmers, Ladle sauce over pasta and enjoy!



My favorite fast and easy breakfast is a big 'ol batch of muffins. Yes, my other food post is about muffins, but let me tell you why. You take a simple muffin recipe and you can add literally anything you want to it. You can add fruit, oatmeal and nuts in half the batter and cheese, bacon and scallions in the other and you have two completely different options, sure to satisfy the whole family. Also, muffins keep really well so you can make enough for the entire week. They also freeze well and can be thawed overnight for breakfast in the morning. Maci thinks muffins are cupcakes so she will eat them without any fuss. Does your family have food allergies? Substitute gluten free flour or whole wheat for traditional white flour, egg replacers or smushed bananas for eggs, almond or soy milk for traditional cow's milk.


My favorite lunch to make that Maci loves are Rollups. They're a fun way to serve a sandwich and since you can't see whats inside, they're less likely to pick through it or see something green and refuse to eat it. Maci thinks (I don't believe it) that she doesn't like onions. If she sees them, she will tell me the whole dish is yucky and try (and fail) not to eat it. Rollups can be made with loaf bread or flour tortillas, and any combination of savory or sweet ingredients. A few favorites at our house are diced chicken, ONIONS, chopped spinach and cheese in a flour tortilla or sliced bananas, peanut butter and honey in wheat bread which is my personal fav. Al's favorite is grilled chicken, spinach, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, feta and Italian dressing in a pita. Same concept, all customizable to your family's tastes. *Pro tip, stick your rollup on the grill or in the oven for a few minutes for extra tastiness*


Spaghetti is Maci's favorite food and one I'm happy to serve as often as she wants it because it's fast, healthy and delicious. The best thing about spaghetti is you can dice up any vegetable, throw it in and a picky child will never know or complain. I like to simmer my spaghetti for a long time to let all of the flavors meld together, if I'm home all day, but it can be done in 15 minutes if you're pressed for time. The combinations you choose for spaghetti are endless and it's a good way to clean out your refrigerator. I put spaghetti sauce ground turkey, spicy Italian sausage, onions, celery, zucchini, tricolor bell peppers, squash, mushrooms, garlic and a bay leaf or two. If I have time to shop for all of this, I'll throw it in, If I have only 3 ingredients, that's what we're having (like last night). If you work all day, you can chop at night (it'll take you 10 minutes to chop ALL of that) and put it in your crockpot and let it go all day. Vegan? Don't eat pork? You can substitute ground beef, ground chicken or tofu. Pasta options are endless, we love angel hair but you can use no yolks, gluten free or veggie pasta.


We love ice cream, popsicles and anything cold in our house. I keep kids yogurt tubes in the freezer instead of ice cream and Maci doesn't know the difference. For a special treat, I mix greek yogurt with whatever fruit we have in the fridge and put it in popsicle molds. Some of my favorite combos are vanilla yogurt and oranges, plain yogurt with strawberries and mint or vanilla yogurt with cherries and cocoa powder. They are seriously delicious! Don't eat dairy? Blend whatever fruit you have in the fridge, you can add a little water and honey or mashed bananas for a smoother texture and pour into molds.
